Road Marking Detection

Markings drawn on the road (such as arrows, turn only lane signs, speed limits etc.) are one of the most clearly visible landmarks in traffic environments. Apart from occlusion by other cars, they is almost no case where they are obscured. They are also relatively easy to detect due to sharp contrast against the black road surface.

We have investigated automatic detection and classification of road markings and collected an extensive dataset for benchmarking the performance of our method. This dataset is now available at the following link -

RoadmarkingDataset.zip (177MB)

The dataset consists of over 1400 labeled images of road markings with bounding boxes showing the location of the marking. The tarball at the link above contains a README file describing the contents.
